Millions Gather at Grand Mosque for 27th Night of Ramadan

RIYADH: Millions of Muslims from around the world gathered at the Grand Mosque in Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah on the 27th night of Ramadan, participating in Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers.

In a historic milestone, the Grand Mosque welcomed over 4.2 million worshipers on Wednesday night, as reported by Al-Ekhbariya.

Worshipers sought Laylat Al-Qadr (The Night of Power), one of the most sacred nights in Islam, which, as stated in the Qur’an, is “better than a thousand months.” While its exact date remains uncertain, it is widely believed to occur on the 27th night of Ramadan. Muslims are also encouraged to seek this night during the odd-numbered nights of the last ten days.

To accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims, authorities implemented extensive operational plans. The Mataf (circumambulation area) was prepared to host 107,000 pilgrims per hour, ensuring smooth movement within the Grand Mosque.

Additionally, 428 escalators and 28 elevators were activated, along with 1,300 speakers for an enhanced audio experience. Cooling systems with a capacity of 90,000 tons were also deployed to maintain comfort for worshipers.

The Makkah Region Health Affairs Department strengthened its medical services, offering care through medical centers located within the Grand Mosque and its courtyards, ensuring pilgrims' well-being throughout the night.
