Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on June 30, 2025, announced the appointment of former cricketer Azhar Mahmood as the acting red-ball head coach of the Pakistan Men’s team. He will hold the position until the end of his current contract. Azhar steps into this leadership role with years of experience on and off the field. Previously serving as the assistant head coach, he has been a vital figure in shaping the team’s strategy and performance in recent years.
Azhar’s appointment is a strategic move to strengthen Pakistan’s red-ball cricket setup. He is well-regarded for his deep understanding of the game, having played international cricket and achieved notable success in the English county circuit. His coaching credentials include winning two County Championship titles, highlighting his leadership skills and ability to guide players in the game’s longer format.
The PCB believes his international exposure, tactical mindset, and proven track record make him the ideal choice to take over the red-ball responsibilities. With Azhar at the helm, the board expects the Test team to continue developing in discipline, consistency, and competitive spirit at the international level.
