Medina, Saudi Arabia – Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has announced a new permit requirement for visitors wishing to perform prayers at Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah, a sacred site within the Prophet’s Mosque. This new electronic permit system is intended to control visitor numbers, maintain a respectful environment, and enhance the overall experience for worshippers.
Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah holds great religious significance as the final resting place of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and is regarded as a spiritually enriching place for prayer. Islamic tradition describes this area—between the Prophet’s home and pulpit—as “a garden from the gardens of Paradise.” For Muslims around the world, visiting and praying here is a highly anticipated and meaningful experience.
The Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has clarified that access to Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah will now require an electronic permit, which can be obtained in advance through the official Hajj and Umrah application. “With the permit system, we aim to control the flow of visitors, especially during high-traffic seasons such as Ramadan and Hajj,” a Ministry representative stated. “This measure will help create a peaceful and respectful atmosphere and allow each visitor the time and space to fully engage in prayer.”
This permit requirement reflects Saudi Arabia’s commitment to preserving the sanctity of Al-Rawdah Al-Sharifah while making it accessible in an orderly manner. By implementing this system, the government seeks to offer a more structured and fulfilling experience for worshippers, ensuring that the sacredness of the site is maintained and accessible to all.
