Riyadh: The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing has proposed new regulations aimed at controlling where zoos can be located in Saudi Arabia. According to these guidelines, zoos would be banned from being set up in residential neighborhoods and near industrial zones. Instead, zoos would only be allowed in areas designated for recreational, environmental, or commercial purposes, including nature reserves.

Key Requirements for Zoo Locations: The proposed guidelines stress that zoos must be built in areas free from flood risks, water pools, and artesian wells. To manage traffic flow, multiple parking lots will be required, with clear entry and exit points. Additionally, a 10-meter green buffer zone must be placed around zoos situated outside the development protection limits to ensure privacy and security.

Strict Standards for Safety and CleanlinessZoos will be required to adhere to high standards of cleanliness, safety, and security. They must comply with regulations set by the National Center for Waste Management and other relevant authorities. These regulations include maintaining proper lighting, air conditioning, and implementing security measures such as cameras and electronic payment systems.

Penalties for Non-ComplianceZoos that fail to comply with these new regulations will face penalties. They will not be allowed to reopen until all issues are addressed and municipal approval is granted.
