Islamabad: In response to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) call for a protest on November 24, the government and administration have mobilized, implementing Section 144 in both Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Preparations are underway for a grand operation against illegal Afghan residents, with plans to block the capital using 1,000 containers.
As part of the government's crackdown, Section 144 prohibits all types of gatherings, rallies, and the assembly of more than four individuals until November 26. The Islamabad police have formed teams to carry out arrests and are preparing for operations around the 26 number chungi, targeting PTI activists and illegal Afghan residents. A heavy police presence will be maintained in the area.
Additionally, the Punjab Home Department has deployed Rangers in Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Attock, with indefinite assignments starting Friday. According to the Punjab Home Department spokesperson, two wings of Rangers will be stationed in Rawalpindi and Attock, while one company will be deployed in Jhelum.
The Federal Ministry of Interior has instructed the Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to ensure that government machinery is not used for political purposes, emphasizing that government employees and resources should not be utilized for the PTI protest. The letter reminded that government resources were misused during previous PTI demonstrations.
In light of the upcoming protest, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has addressed concerns regarding potential mobile and internet shutdowns. The PTA clarified that any decision to suspend services falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Interior, and no such orders have been received yet.
