In the high-altitude juniper forests of the Sarawat Mountains in southern Saudi Arabia, the endangered Asir magpie fights for survival as its habitat is increasingly threatened by urbanization and agricultural growth.
Saudi photographer Awad Al Shahri has dedicated seven years to documenting the elusive bird’s life and behavior. Through his lens, Al Shahri aims to raise awareness about the magpie’s plight and contribute to efforts for its conservation.
The Asir magpie, native to the region, is a symbol of the delicate balance between nature and human development, underscoring the need for sustainable practices to protect Saudi Arabia’s rich biodiversity.
