Seoul: Squid Game star Lee Jung-Jae has opened up about the toughest parts of filming the hit Netflix series’ upcoming season, sharing rare insights during a press conference hosted by the streaming giant. Reflecting on the physical and emotional demands of the deadly games, the actor highlighted two moments that stood out as particularly difficult.
Lee, who returns as Seong Gi-hun, admitted that Red Light and Green Light were some of the most physically exhausting experiences, especially in Season 1. “I went into shooting not knowing what to expect, emotionally or physically,” he said. “It felt very awkward and quite challenging.”
The challenge didn’t ease in Season 2 either. “I had to try to convince all 455 other players to listen to me. I was always screaming at the top of my lungs,” Lee joked, comparing himself to a classroom president trying to quiet a chaotic room.
On the emotional front, he pointed to a new game called Mingle. “That one was incredibly draining,” he shared. “You go from embracing someone to neglecting them, and eventually, you may have to kill someone. Watching others die through a narrow door opening hit me hard.”
Lee emphasized that each game across Seasons 1 to 3 had its emotional weight, saying, “They all have unique colors and leave different memories.”
As anticipation builds for Squid Game’s new season, Lee’s revelations offer fans a glimpse into the intense psychological and physical toll the show takes on its cast and the tension that grips viewers.
