Terrorist Attack on Third Convoy Bound for Kurram: 1 Soldier Martyred, 4 Injured

Kohat: A terrorist rocket attack targeted the third relief convoy headed to Kurram, resulting in the martyrdom of one security official and injuries to four others. According to Additional Deputy Commissioner, three vehicles in the convoy were damaged during the attack while local sources told to Human Online that 35 vehicles were set to fire by the attackers.

Security forces retaliated, killing six terrorists and injuring ten others in the counter-operation.

The convoy, which was carrying essential goods, returned to Thall following the attack. Vehicles from the Chhapri checkpoint also turned back. According to district administration officials, the convoy had originally departed from Thall Cantonment in two phases, carrying 35 goods-laden vehicles in its first phase. The vehicles were transporting medicines, fruits, vegetables, and other essential supplies.

A heavy contingent of police, FC, and security forces was deployed to protect the convoy. The second phase of the convoy was expected to depart for Kurram later in the day.

This attack marks the third incident of violence targeting aid convoys destined for Kurram. It comes in the wake of severe sectarian unrest in the region, which erupted in October 2024 and escalated in November, claiming over 300 lives. The unrest led to road closures, causing acute shortages of food and medicine. Tragically, more than 170 individuals, including over 130 children, lost their lives due to the resulting humanitarian crisis.

Efforts to restore peace through tribal and government-led negotiations culminated in a peace agreement in Kohat. Under this agreement, both sides pledged to dismantle illegal bunkers and surrender heavy weaponry, paving the way for the resumption of relief supplies to the conflict-stricken area.

Despite attacks on previous convoys—including one where the Deputy Commissioner of Kurram was injured—the relief operation has continued. The third convoy, which departed earlier today for Parachinar, was ambushed at Bagan, marking another tragic incident in the region’s ongoing crisis.
