DUBAI: The UAE has launched a new humanitarian initiative in the Republic of Chad to support Sudanese refugees, distributing 3,000 food baskets and deploying a mobile medical team across several camps.
The relief operation targeted the Degue, Alacha, and Abou Gadam camps, benefiting 15,000 refugees in total.
At Degue camp, 1,500 baskets were distributed to 7,500 individuals, while 1,300 baskets served 6,500 people in Alacha.
Another 200 baskets were delivered to Abou Gadam camp, supporting 1,000 refugees. Each food basket is designed to sustain families for a full month, addressing nutritional needs and improving food security.
A mobile medical team was stationed at Abou Gadam camp, offering essential healthcare services to address urgent health concerns amid difficult living conditions.
The initiative was implemented in cooperation with Chad’s Ministry of Social Action, Solidarity and Humanitarian Affairs, and the National Committee for the Reception and Reintegration of Refugees and Returnees. It forms part of broader efforts to relieve humanitarian suffering and support refugee populations.
UAE Ambassador to Chad, Rashid Saeed Al Shamsi, said the initiative underscores the UAE’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian and development aid, especially in areas facing crises and mass displacement.
Al Shamsi added that the UAE aims to enhance social and economic stability in Chad through sustained assistance, promoting dignity, cohesion, and improved living conditions.
As part of its long-term support for displaced communities, the UAE has also established three hospitals for Sudanese refugees: two in Chad (Am-Djarass and Abéché) and one in Malualkon, South Sudan.
These facilities provide essential healthcare services in regions with limited medical infrastructure.
