Worcestershire Ropes In Pakistan’s Khurram Shahzad for County Cricket

Worcester: The city of England will welcome Pakistani fast bowler Khurram Shahzad this July as he joins Worcestershire County Cricket Club for the remainder of the 2025 season. The 25-year-old right-arm pacer from Mandi Bahauddin, Punjab, will be available in all three formats, County Championship, Metro Bank One Day Cup, and Vitality T20 Blast.

Shahzad, often likened to South African legend Dale Steyn for his pace and swing, made his Test debut in 2023, and has already taken 20 wickets in six matches. His standout performance includes 6 for 90 against Bangladesh.

Former Pakistan captain Azhar Ali reportedly played a key role in the signing, having previously represented Worcestershire and facilitated signings like Usama Mir.

Head Coach Alan Richardson praised Shahzad’s pace and international experience, stating he’ll also help develop younger bowlers. Shahzad recently impressed in the Pakistan Super League for Quetta Gladiators, where he claimed 12 wickets in eight matches.

Shahzad expressed his excitement that playing in England is a dream come true and hopes to contribute to the club’s strong season finish. He will be eligible for selection from July 4, starting with a T20 match against Yorkshire at Headingley.
