Atlanta: A massive crash on Lap 69 of the NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway forced a red flag after 23 cars were wrecked in a single incident. The crash began when Denny Hamlin bumped John-Hunter Nemechek, sending him into the wall. Chaos erupted as the field behind had nowhere to go, blocking the track entirely. NASCAR halted the race for a lengthy cleanup.
The wreck claimed prominent names like Joey Logano, Ross Chastain, Corey LaJoie, Austin Cindric, William Byron, and Chase Briscoe. LaJoie, frustrated, likened the race to “bumper cars at Frankie’s Fun Park” and criticised reckless driving. Logano, who started from the pole, called it a “speedway wreck” and admitted he was caught in the mess.
Briscoe, last week’s winner, said his team was close to repairing the car when NASCAR found chassis damage. The incident turned the race into a wreck-filled spectacle, with half the field eliminated.
