Paul controlled the pace from the first bell and landed clean shots, while Chavez Jr., son of Mexican boxing legend Julio Cesar Chavez, struggled to respond. The 39-year-old failed to land a punch in the first round, and the trend continued. Paul, 28, leveraged his superior speed and power to maintain control.
The bout followed Paul’s controversial November clash with former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson. Though his guaranteed purse for this fight was around $300,000, Paul is expected to earn up to $10 million through pay-per-view and sponsorship deals.
