Mumbai: The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has demanded a complete ban on singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh’s projects in India after he cast Pakistani actor Hania Aamir in his upcoming film Sardaar Ji 3. The call comes amid renewed tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent Pahalgam terror attack.
Diljit unveiled the film’s Instagram trailer on Sunday, revealing Hania’s role in the horror-comedy. In the movie, she joins Diljit’s character, a ghost hunter in the UK, alongside Neeru Bajwa in romantic subplots. Directed by Amar Hundal, Sardaar Ji 3 is set to release overseas on June 27, with no confirmed India release.
FWICE President BN Tiwari, in an interview, accused Diljit of hurting Indian sentiments. “By working with a Pakistani actor, Diljit has disrespected the nation and insulted the sacrifice of our brave soldiers,” he stated. He also questioned Diljit’s loyalty and priorities, adding that Indian talent should have been preferred.
Tiwari confirmed that FWICE had earlier issued a letter to the film’s makers seeking clarification but received no response. “Now we will directly impose a ban. We will also formally notify all industry stakeholders today,” he said.
FWICE has targeted Diljit and called for a ban on the film’s producers, warning that any future projects involving them will be opposed in India.
The controversy has fueled ongoing debates about cross-border collaborations between Indian and Pakistani artists, especially during periods of heightened diplomatic strain.
