Gaza: The Israeli army, in conjunction with the Israeli Security Agency, announced that their joint operations on Sunday night in the Shujayea neighbourhood of Gaza City resulted in the death of Muhammad al-Ajlah, whom they identified as a Hamas commander.
This operation occurred during ongoing military actions in Gaza, and the joint statement was disseminated via Telegram in English, outlining the details of the strike.
According to the agencies, al-Ajlah had recently taken over as commander of Hamas’s Shujayea battalion following the death of his predecessor, Haitham Rizq Abd al-Karim Sheikh Khalil, who was eliminated in a previous operation last week.
The statement emphasized that Khalil was responsible for arming terrorists within the battalion with weapons used against both Israeli civilians and troops, underlining the ongoing threat perceived by Israeli security forces.
The press release further noted that al-Ajlah was the fifth commander of the Shujayea battalion to be killed since the war began, and the third elimination since the resurgence of military operations in Gaza.
This targeting of senior figures within Hamas reflects Israel's strategic focus on weakening the command structure of the group, a designated terrorist organization, as part of its broader military campaign in the region.
