Islamabad: Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to the high-quality development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 2.0, focusing on industrialisation, Special Economic Zones (SEZs), clean energy, agriculture, and livelihood projects.
This commitment was reiterated during the 5th meeting of the CPEC Joint Working Group on International Cooperation and Coordination (JWG-ICC), held in Beijing. The meeting was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch and Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Sun Weidong.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office on Saturday, both sides emphasised the importance of enhancing bilateral collaboration under the CPEC framework. They expressed a shared determination to accelerate the pace of development and expand cooperation in key sectors to ensure mutual economic benefits.
The meeting also underscored the role of CPEC in fostering regional connectivity and economic integration, with both parties committing to its sustainable development through people-centric projects.
CPEC, a flagship project under China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), has entered its second phase, which prioritises industrialisation and socio-economic progress alongside infrastructure development.
