China & Pakistan's Big Aquaculture Plan in Gwadar.

Gwadar, Pakistan: As an important part of developing Pakistan's blue economy, China and Pakistan plan to establish a high-tech aquaculture hub in the coastal city of Gwadar. The announcement was made after a comprehensive business plan was presented by Professor Yu Bo, Chairman of the China Overseas Ports Holding Company (COPHC) to Pakistan's Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry.

The proposed aquaculture project would, in fact, complement the broader initiative to make Gwadar a major economic zone in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Professor Yu highlighted the development of a sustainable and technologically advanced seafood industry, which may create jobs, enhance exports, and exploit the rich marine resources of the city.

Minister Chaudhry welcomed the initiative, describing it as an opportunity that would transform coastal Pakistan. "Gwadar has the potential to become a major global seafood hub. This project will generate employment, attract international investment, and support Pakistan's food security goals," he said.

The minister said that the government was committed to providing the infrastructure needed for such industrial enterprises—power, clean water, and good roads. He underscored the significance of hatchery development, processing plants, and sustainable farming practices based on international quality standards.

There was mutual agreement to maintain close coordination through respective government departments and technical experts to ensure effective implementation. This initiative is viewed as a reflection of the growing economic cooperation between Pakistan and China on a sustainable, innovative, and regional development trajectory.

The Ministry of Maritime Affairs has reiterated its openness to more investment-driven proposals that will unleash the coastal and marine potential of Pakistan.
