RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has strongly condemned the suicide attack on Saint Elias Church in Damascus, which killed at least 20 people and injured dozens more.
According to Syria’s Interior Ministry, a Daesh-affiliated attacker entered the Greek Orthodox church in the Dwelaa district, opened fire on worshippers, and then detonated an explosive vest, marking the first such bombing in Damascus since the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.
In a statement, the Saudi Foreign Ministry reiterated the Kingdom’s firm stance against targeting places of worship, terrorizing civilians, and shedding innocent blood.
The statement also affirmed Saudi Arabia’s solidarity with the Syrian Arab Republic in confronting all forms of violence, extremism, and terrorism.
In Addition, the Islamic State group claimed responsibility, continuing its pattern of targeting religious minorities despite losing territorial control.
