Saudi Commission Boosts Music Education for People With Disabilities

MAKKAH: Saudi Arabia’s Music Commission has launched a national initiative aimed at expanding access to music education for people with disabilities, in a move aligned with Vision 2030’s goals of inclusivity and quality of life enhancement.

The program is currently being implemented in Riyadh, Jeddah, and Alkhobar, where instructors are being trained to teach students with physical and cognitive disabilities using specialized methods and adapted curriculum.

Music education expert Issa Al-Qarbi lauded the initiative, calling it a transformative effort that harnesses the power of music to improve brain function, motor coordination, and emotional well-being.

The initiative also incorporates accessible learning environments in line with Mowaamah certification standards, aimed at supporting greater participation of individuals with disabilities in the labor market.

Developed in collaboration with international music experts and guided by the standards of the National Association for Music Education, the program empowers students to express themselves through music, build self-confidence, and develop key life skills.

Extended training will prepare students for group performances while enhancing their artistic, cognitive, and social abilities.

Parental and community engagement sessions are also planned to raise awareness and foster support.

Al-Qarbi emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration between education and healthcare sectors to ensure long-term success, describing the program as a model for regional innovation and social inclusion.
