Saudi King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman extend condolences to Algeria on the passing of former Prime Minister Ahmed Ghozali. According to the Saudi Press Agency, King Salman sent a message to the Algerian president and the deceased's family expressing his heartfelt condolences and sympathies.
Similar to the king's feelings, the crown prince also extended his sympathies in a different message. According to official television, Ghozali passed away on February 4 at the age of 88 in the military hospital in Ain Naaja, Algiers. The following day, he was buried in Ben Aknoun Cemetery.
Following Algeria's independence, Ghozali, a graduate of Paris' École des Ponts et Chaussées, began his career in public service in 1964 when he was appointed under-secretary of state for public works. After that, he served in a number of high-level roles, including as international affairs, finance, water resources, and energy, before being named prime minister from June 1991 until July 8, 1992. He oversaw the nationalization of hydrocarbons in 1971 while serving as minister of industry and energy from 1966 to 1977. Sonatrach was Algeria's national oil firm.
Both King Salman and the Crown Prince conveyed their profound sympathies and condolences to the Algerian President and the deceased's family in their messages.
