Karachi: The son of Jamaat-e-Islami Balochistan’s chief and Member of the Balochistan Assembly from Gwadar, Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman, has reportedly gone missing in Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city.
According to initial reports, Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has reached out to the Sindh government to assist in the recovery of Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman's son.
Speaking to media via phone, Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman confirmed that his young son, Abdal Basit — the third among his children by age — was studying at a religious seminary in Karachi’s Saudabad area. The child reportedly left the seminary after Asr prayers and has not been seen since.
Chief Minister Bugti has expressed deep concern over the incident. In an official statement, it was confirmed that he held a telephonic conversation with Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman to obtain details of the disappearance and assured him of full support from the Balochistan government.
“The Government of Balochistan will extend every possible assistance to ensure the safe and swift recovery of Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman’s son,” the statement read.
The Balochistan chief minister has also contacted Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to discuss the case in detail. Both leaders reportedly acknowledged the gravity of the situation and emphasized the need for immediate and coordinated action.
According to the statement, CM Murad Ali Shah has directed the Karachi police and relevant institutions to begin an urgent and thorough investigation into the matter.
Chief Minister Bugti reiterated that the Balochistan government remains in constant contact with its Sindh counterpart and stands firmly with the affected family during this distressing time.
It is worth noting that Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman is widely regarded as a prominent voice advocating for the rights of Balochistan, particularly Gwadar.
He has been a vocal critic of both the government and the country’s powerful establishment. Over the years, he has led multiple protests demanding the protection of local rights and highlighting the issue of missing persons in the region. His activism has also led to his arrest on several occasions.
