The Truth About Chia Pudding and Weight Gain Risks

New Delhi: Chia seed pudding is widely loved by health-conscious individuals for its high fiber, omega-3 fatty acids, and antioxidants. It’s easy to prepare and often seen as a nutritious option for breakfast or a guilt-free snack.

Many include it in their weight-loss diets due to its reputation as a superfood. However, according to nutritionist Karishma Chawla, chia pudding may not be as perfect as it seems, especially if not consumed correctly.

While chia pudding is generally healthy, problems can arise when it’s sweetened heavily with honey, maple syrup, or flavored milk. These additions can increase sugar intake, turning a healthy meal into a dessert that may contribute to weight gain and blood sugar spikes.

Another concern is the high fiber content in chia seeds. While fiber supports digestion, consuming too much too quickly can lead to bloating, gas, or constipation, particularly for those not used to a high-fiber diet.

Chawla emphasizes moderation. Eating chia pudding in large quantities or without considering its sugar content may cause discomfort or negate its benefits. Still, when prepared mindfully and consumed reasonably, chia seed pudding remains a good source of plant-based protein, omega-3s, and antioxidants.

It’s not a food to avoid, but one that should be enjoyed wisely as part of a balanced diet.
