Bollywood legend Aamir Khan, known for his transformative roles and dedication to his craft, recently revealed that he nearly walked away from the film industry to focus on his family. With a career that has spanned over three decades and brought iconic films such as Lagaan, Taare Zameen Par, and Dangal, Aamir has always been regarded as one of the most influential actors in Indian cinema. However, in an emotional interview, the actor shared that at one point, he seriously considered retiring from films, driven by a sense of guilt over the years he had dedicated solely to his work.
Aamir explained that the turning point came before the release of Laal Singh Chaddha. Reflecting on his journey since entering the industry at the age of 18, Aamir admitted, "I had planned to quit before Laal Singh Chaddha. Since I was 18, I’ve put all my energy into films, and I realized I hadn’t been as present for my family as I should have been."
In a private family meeting, Aamir shared his decision with his children, Junaid and Ira, and ex-wife Kiran Rao. His son Junaid, who has recently stepped into acting himself, encouraged his father to find a balance instead of quitting altogether. "Junaid suggested I avoid going from one extreme to the other and instead find a middle ground," Aamir recalled.
Kiran, who was deeply moved by Aamir’s decision, asked for some time to reflect privately. "You’re a child of cinema; by stepping away, you’d be leaving us too," she told him, highlighting the impact his career has had on their family life.
Ira, with her characteristic humor, added that while Aamir's presence at home full-time would be a big change, it might just be overwhelming for the family.
Despite the emotional weight of his decision, Aamir ultimately chose to continue his journey in cinema. He signed on for six new projects, determined to make the next phase of his career the most rewarding yet. "I want these years to be my best, collaborating with musicians, writers, and directors who inspire me," he said, speaking about his hopes for a fulfilling artistic legacy.
This pivotal moment in Aamir's life came during the COVID-19 pandemic, a time that allowed him to reflect deeply on his life and career. The actor, known for his meticulous attention to detail and deep commitment to the roles he chooses, now looks forward to what could be the most rewarding decade of his career, blending his passion for cinema with a more balanced approach to family life.
