Peshawar: Pakistan's Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, held discussions with political leaders in Peshawar regarding the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and the former tribal districts. Sources indicate that political leaders emphasized the need to continue negotiations with the Taliban government.
The Army Chief's visit comes amidst a surge in terrorist incidents across KP, with daily clashes reported between security forces and militants in the southern districts of the province. Military operations in these areas remain ongoing.
Meanwhile, in the Mohmand district, the Mohmand Political Alliance organized a peace march opposing military operations and the continuation of conflict. Similar sentiments have been echoed in North and South Waziristan, where locals have expressed strong reactions against military actions.
Despite the increase in terrorism in KP, many tribal representatives have voiced their opposition to further military operations. Speaking to Human Online, they argued that the past two decades of large-scale operations against militants have yielded no tangible results. Instead, these operations have caused significant human and financial losses for the tribal population, while militancy has not only persisted but intensified in these areas.
After enduring two decades of conflict, the tribal populace has lost faith in the effectiveness of military operations and is now calling for an end to warfare on their lands. They demand sustainable peace and a shift away from violent solutions to the region's security challenges.
