Islamabad: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing has registered a case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Shahbaz Gill and prominent YouTuber Imran Riaz Khan for their alleged involvement in editing and circulating doctored videos and images of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on social media platforms.
According to officials, Shahbaz Gill and Imran Riaz Khan have been booked under Sections 20, 21(d), and 24 of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016. The charges pertain to the dissemination of AI-generated manipulated content through their social media accounts, aimed at defaming and spreading false information about public figures.
Prior to this, the FIA had arrested three individuals accused of sharing fabricated videos and images of Maryam Nawaz and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. A Joint Action Committee (JAC) was formed to conduct an in-depth investigation into the matter.
The FIA has reiterated its commitment to tackling cybercrimes and protecting individuals from the misuse of technology and AI-generated content. The investigation remains ongoing, with further updates expected in the coming days.
