Lahore: Religious scholars from Darul Iftah Jamia Naeemia, in collaboration with Lahore’s police department, have issued a Fatwa declaring one-wheeling, kite flying, and aerial firing as un-Islamic. Citing Quranic verses and Hadiths, the Fatwa states that these activities are strictly prohibited (Haram) due to their life-threatening consequences.
The decision came after senior police officers shared alarming statistics with religious leaders, highlighting hundreds of deaths and injuries caused by these actions. The fatalities, particularly among the youth, have left many families devastated.
The scholars emphasized that Islam places the highest priority on preserving human life, and any act that endangers life is forbidden. They likened such reckless behavior to suicide, which is explicitly condemned in the Quran.
Lahore DIG Operations Faisal Kamran confirmed the issuance of the Fatwa and supported the religious and legal stance against these practices. He reiterated that all three activities are banned due to their dangerous and extravagant nature, which contradicts Islamic values.
In the last 20 days alone, police have intensified crackdowns, resulting in 151 arrests for one-wheeling, 150 cases filed against kite flyers, and 118 individuals involved in aerial firing being sent to jail.
DIG Kamran highlighted the devastating impact of these activities, citing numerous deaths caused by kite strings and stray bullets. He called on parents, teachers, and religious leaders to educate the youth about the dangers of such behavior and to discourage them from engaging in these unlawful activities.
The Fatwa urges the public to cooperate with authorities in combating these issues, emphasizing the Quranic teachings on avoiding self-harm and practicing responsibility. It reflects a growing concern over activities that risk lives and violate both Islamic principles and legal regulations.
The city’s authorities are committed to protecting lives and ensuring community compliance with the law and Islamic teachings, DIG Kamran concluded.
