Minor Earthquake Strikes Eastern Saudi Arabia, No Damage Reported

RIYADH:  A 3.35-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Saudi Arabia, approximately 85 kilometers east of the city of Al-Jubail on Tuesday, the Saudi Geological Survey (SGS) confirmed.

Tariq Mansoob, head of the detection center at the SGS, told local television that the tremor occurred at 5:12 p.m. and posed no threat to the Kingdom.

Mansoob revealed that six earthquakes were recorded across Saudi Arabia during March and April, all ranging between magnitudes 3.5 and 4.5.

He attributed the recent seismic activity to tectonic movement along the Arabian and Eurasian plates near the Zagros and Makran mountain ranges in Iran and Pakistan. The pressure generated by this activity has led to a series of minor tremors in the region.

"Small earthquakes are a positive indicator," Mansoob said, explaining that such tremors help release pressure and reduce the risk of a larger, potentially destructive quake. He reassured the public that the tremors were not a cause for concern, noting that stronger seismic activity had occurred closer to Iran's shores.
