Islamabad: A new global passport ranking has been released for the year 2025, and once again, Pakistan remains among the weakest passports in the world. The ranking, issued by Nomad Capitalist, assesses the strength of passports based on five key factors.
According to the 2025 report, the most powerful passport belongs to a European nation, with Ireland securing the top position. The ranking criteria include visa-free travel (50%), taxation on citizens (20%), public perception of the country (10%), dual citizenship policies (10%), and personal freedom (10%).
Ireland leads the list with a total score of 109 points. Irish citizens can travel visa-free to 176 countries, and the country has a favorable taxation system along with high scores in public perception and freedom, each earning 50 points. Switzerland follows closely in second place with 108.50 points, while Greece ranks third with the same score. Portugal stands at fourth position with 108 points, and Malta secures the fifth spot with 107.50 points.
On the other hand, Pakistan ranks among the worst passports globally, placed at 195th position with a mere 32 points. The countries with weaker passports than Pakistan include Iraq (31.50 points), Eritrea (31 points), Yemen (30.50 points), and Afghanistan, which holds the lowest ranking at 199th place with 27 points.
