Pakpattan: Authorities have launched an inquiry into the tragic deaths of at least 20 children at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Pakpattan. On Monday, the Sahiwal Commissioner ordered a full investigation following allegations of medical negligence and critical shortages in the children’s ward.
A new committee, comprising technical staff from Sahiwal Teaching Hospital, has been formed to probe the incident. Officials said the committee has five days to complete its investigation and submit a detailed report.
Initial reports indicate the children died between June 16 and June 22, with June 19 being the deadliest—five children reportedly died on that day alone.
Families of the deceased have accused the hospital of severe negligence, claiming an acute shortage of oxygen supply contributed to the loss of young lives. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact causes of death, but the inquiry aims to establish responsibility and prevent future tragedies.
