Mumbai: Actress Sonakshi Sinha has broken her silence on the online backlash she and her husband Zaheer Iqbal faced after their interfaith marriage, calling the comments “low in taste.” In a recent interview with Zoom, Sonakshi said the couple stood firm by supporting one another and refused to seek validation from the outside world.
“Yes, they were low in taste and are still low in taste,” she said, responding to comments targeting their religious backgrounds. “While the world was commenting on our interfaith marriage, Zaheer and I kept each other sane. We know what we have—it’s sacred to us. We protect it, celebrate it, love it, and flaunt it,” she added.
The couple, who had been dating for seven years, married in June 2024 on the same date they began their relationship—June 23, 2017. They shared emotional wedding moments on social media and described the ceremony as raw, honest, and deeply personal.
On the work front, Sonakshi is gearing up to return to cinemas with Nikita Roy, a supernatural drama directed by her brother Kussh S Sinha. The film, starring Arjun Rampal and Paresh Rawal, will now be released on July 18. She was last seen in Kakuda on ZEE5.
