Sotheby's first international auction in the Kingdom is taking place in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia, which is a major turning point for the nation's emerging art sector. On February 8th, the historic village of Diriyah will host the "Origins" auction, which will include a diverse assortment of approximately 120 items, such as jewelry, watches, fine art, designer handbags, sports memorabilia, and more.
This event is in line with Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to boost tourism and diversify the Saudi economy. Following a week-long exhibition and panel discussions at Bujairi Terrace in Diriyah, the sale features works by Saudi artists Mohammed Al Saleem and Abdulhalim Radwi as well as well-known works by international artists Andy Warhol, Picasso, and Magritte.
The auction house's dedication to the area is further evidenced by its formal incorporation in Saudi Arabia and the opening of a new office at the Al Faisaliah Tower in Riyadh. The updated code "essentially gives much more commercial certainty to transactions which had been relying on more outdated legislation" . The innovative mixed-use developer that created Diriyah, The Diriyah Company, is revolutionizing urban planning while upholding the greatest standards for development, design, and preservation.
