London: Oscar-nominated filmmaker Denis Villeneuve will direct the next James Bond movie, MGM Studios confirmed on Wednesday. The Canadian director, known for Arrival and Dune, said he’s a lifelong fan of the iconic spy and called the opportunity a “massive responsibility.”
Villeneuve was nominated for Best Director for Arrival at the 2017 Oscars and Best Adapted Screenplay for Dune at the 2022 Oscars. The Bond film is the first under Amazon’s MGM Studios, which recently partnered with longtime rights holders Michael Wilson and Barbara Broccoli to steer the franchise’s creative future.
A new actor has yet to be announced to replace Daniel Craig, who exited after No Time to Die (2021), which grossed nearly $800 million worldwide. Inspired by Ian Fleming’s novels, the Bond series spans over 60 years and has earned over $7 billion globally. The next instalment will be produced by Amy Pascal and David Heyman.
