Saudi Arabia Showcases Global Role in Safeguarding Children in Cyberspace

GENEVA: Saudi Arabia’s permanent mission to the United Nations in Geneva, in collaboration with the National Cybersecurity Authority (NCA) and the Global Cybersecurity Forum (GCF), organized a side event on child protection in cyberspace, highlighting global capacity-building as a shared responsibility.

Held on the sidelines of the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council, the event was part of the global initiative “Child Protection in Cyberspace” (CPC), launched by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. The initiative aims to ensure a safe and empowering digital environment for children worldwide.

Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Abdulmohsen Majed bin Khothaila, attended the session, along with representatives from the GCF, UNICEF, the UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), the UN International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the WeProtect Global Alliance.

The session showcased the Kingdom’s leading role in child cyber protection through national frameworks, education initiatives, and enhanced international cooperation—all aligned with Vision 2030 goals to invest in human capital.

During the event, the GCF and UNICEF launched a joint project to train over 5 million parents and caregivers globally on online child safety and provide technical support to child helpline services in 30 countries.

Participants concluded by stressing the importance of international partnerships across governments, organizations, and the private sector to strengthen global efforts in protecting children online.
